CAIRO - 16 March 2023: The UN Security Council praised the role played by Egypt in facilitating the talks in Cairo between the Libyan House of Representatives and the High Council of State.
In a statement, of which Youm7 obtained a copy, the international organization welcomed the gradual progress that has been made regarding the constitutional framework for elections and the 13th amendment to the Constitutional Declaration.
The amendment, which includes 34 articles, defines the government’s new system and the tasks of the elected president and premier as Libya aims to hold its long-awaited presidential and parliamentary elections, which was scheduled for December 2021 as per a UN-sponsored plan.
The new amendment also defines the powers and tasks of the legislative authority.
