CAIRO - 14 March 2023: Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shokry attended Tuesday the virtual ministerial meeting of Major Economies Forum on Energy and Climate Change fulfilling the invitation of U.S. Special Presidential Envoy on Climate John Kerry.
The meeting discussed the outcomes of COP 27 and ways of building on them in preparation for COP 28 taking place in the UAE by the end of 2023. On his side, Minister Shokry noted that the last summit hosted by Egypt represented a transition from pledges into implementation.
The minister further stressed that for international climate action to succeed, the interests of all parties concerned must be taken into consideration. He equally highlighted the demands made at COP 27 to reform international financing institutions with the aim of enlarging and facilitating funds to climate mitigation.
Minister Shokry expressed confidence in the forum's ability to support climate action on all levels. The forum, which was launched by the United States in 2009 and whose purpose is enhancing dialogue on climate among developed and developing nations, is holding a summit meeting in April as its purpose
