CAIRO - 13 March 2023: Egypt is ready to host major sports events, given the advanced relevant infrastructure it has,the prime minister told the head of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) on Sunday.
Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly and Minister of Sports Ashraf Sobhy also discussed CAF’s head Patrice Mostsepe a new headquarters for the association in East Cairo, where many institutions are being relocated. CAF now lies in 6th of October City west of Cairo.
Madbouly emphasized that Egypt “fully supports” CAF’s plans to develop African football and the presence of Africa in international events. He said that the continent’s performance in the latest World Cup in Qatar showed the leap in Africa’s level in the game.
The prime minister highlighted Egypt International Olympic City (EIOC), which is strategically situated between Cairo, Suez, Ain Sokhna, and the Administrative Capital, to Mostsepe and CAF’s Secretary-General Veron Mosengo-Omba. EIOC occupies 450 feddans with a 92,000-seat stadium
Egypt places great importance on sports and has thus hosted the African Nations Football Championship and the Handball World Cup. For his part, Mostsepe said he looks forward to more cooperation between CAF and Egypt.
