CAIRO - 1 March 2023: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs extended Wednesday Egypt's condolences to Greece on the victims of Larissa train crash, wishing the injured a speedy recovery and expressing solidarity with the Greek government and people.
The number of deaths and injuries amounted to 36 and 85, respectively, as a passenger train and a cargo train collided head-on, as reported by Reuters.
Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mohamed Shaker told the Middle East News Agency (MENA) in February that Egypt and Greece were in the process of selecting an international consulting firm that would prepare a feasibility study for an intended electricity linkage between both countries.
The minister stated that the two countries could exchange electricity of around 2,000 megawatts. He added that a meeting had been held with a Belgian company that owned very advanced ships specialized in installing submarine power cables at very deep distances.
Minister Shaker highlighted the European interest in electricity linkage with Egypt, which has a surplus of renewable energy, and a strong distribution grid.
