CAIRO - 18 February 2023: The Egyptian government has directed L.E. 10 billion for gender-responsive planning during the current fiscal year, in order to double the percentage of gender-responsive planning investments in government investments directed at human development from 10% to 20%.
The budget was confirmed by the state's economic and social development plan for the fiscal year 2022/2023 presented by the Minister of Planning, Dr. Hala Al-Saeed, and approved by Parliament in both chambers (Representatives, Senate).
In this regard, et reviews the most important projects being implemented this year in the health field:
1- Primary health care, with a value of EGP 5.1 billion.
2- Developing pediatric and women's health hospitals, at a value of EGP 783 million.
3- Establishing and developing 10 pediatric hospitals.
The Ministry of Planning and Economic Development has set a guide for the "Gender-Responsive Sustainable Development Plan", and the guide reflects the great importance that the state attaches to the empowerment of women, children and people of determination.
It is considered the first guide of its kind that sets an integrated and applicable framework for integrating these groups into development plans. This comes in line with Egypt's Vision 2030, by carefully defining the needs of different social groups, monitoring development gaps between these groups, and directing public spending to bridge these gaps.
The plan indicates that an integrated gender-responsive planning matrix has been created, which includes 140 development interventions and 150 indicators for evaluating the performance of these interventions in 11 sectors.
