CAIRO – 17 February 2023: Egypt released 199,000 tons of corn and soybeans, worth about $96 million, required for poultry fodder, in cooperation with the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE), said Al-Sayyed Al Qusseir, the Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, on Thursday in a statement.
This amount of corn and soybeans released during the period from 1/26/2023 to 2/9/2023, he added in the statement, noting the released amount included 156,000 tons of corn, worth about $56 million, and about 43,000 tons of soybeans with about $32 million, as well as feed additives worth about $8 million.
Since October, the country has suffered a shortage in feed nationwide, which led some of the workers in farms to execute chicks. Footage showing the execution of chicks circulated on social media has stirred anger among people. Afterward, Egypt’s Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli said that there will be cooperation with the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) to speed up the release of the largest possible amount of feed to support the pourtly industry.
