No bird flu cases have been recorded for 5 years: Heath Ministry

CAIRO – 14 February 2023: No bird flu infections have been recorded among citizens in Egypt since 2018, said Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, the spokesman of the Ministry of Health and Population in remarks to the Mr. Citizen T.V. program on Monday.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has warned of a possible outbreak of bird flu (avian influenza A (H5N1) 2.3.4.4b viruses) among humans after it transferred from birds to mammals.

“H5N1 has spread widely in wild birds and pourtly for 25 years, but the recent spillover to mammals needs to be monitored closely […] But we cannot assume that will remain the case, and we must prepare for any change in the status quo,” said WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus on Feb. 8, 2023.
