CAIRO – 7 February 2023: President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi made a phone call Tuesday to Syrian counterpart Bashar al-Assad to extend condolences on victims of the deadly earthquake that hit the country on Monday.
President Sisi wished the injured a speedy recovery, and assured Assad that aid would be delivered to Syria, expressing solidarity with the neighboring Arab state during that painful crisis.
On his side, the Syrian president expressed his gratitude to the president's gesture, stressing Syria's appreciation for the long and historic ties between the two countries and peoples.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs condoled with both Turkey and Syria in a press statement Monday. The human losses in Syria are estimated at 1,083 deaths and 2,400 injuries, while the figures in Turkey are 1,762 and 9,000.
