CAIRO – 6 February 2023: The 54th edition of Cairo International Book Fair concluded its 12-day activities on Monday after receiving more than 3.6 million visitors, the Ministry of Culture said in a statement.
This is the largest number of visitors to the fair since it was moved to its new headquarters in the Fair Zone in New Cairo, the ministry said.
The 54th fair saw the participation of more than 1,000 publishing houses from 53 countries from 10 am to 8 pm every day and to 9 pm on Fridays and Saturdays.
Out of 1,047 publishing houses participating in the fair, 707 were Egyptian and 340 were from foreign states. Countries, including Hungary and Dominican Republic participated in the fair for the first time.
Jordan was the guest of honor of the 54th fair. Also, late Egyptian poet Salah Jahin was this year’s personality and famous Egyptian writer Kamel Kilani was the personality of the year at the children’s exhibition.

Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli witnessed the inauguration of this year’s book fair, which extended from 25 January to 6 February.
The Cairo International Book Fair is one of the largest of its kind in the world and the Arab world. It was inaugurated in late sixties.
The fair displays millions of books from hundreds of book sellers from inside and outside Egypt.
The book fair headquarters was moved to New Cairo’s Fifth Settlement district only in 2020 after being held for 25 years between 1984 and 2019 in Nasr City’s Fair Zone.
