CAIRO – 6 February 2023: Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El Sisi welcomed during a joint press conference at Al ittihadiya palace, his Croatian counterpart President Zoran Milanović visit to Egypt.
He congratulated Croatia for joining the Schengen and Eurozone areas, as of January.
President Sisi said that Egypt and Croatia have historical relations, as Egypt hosted up to 30,000 refugees during World War II at Al-Shatt refugee camp.
He also noted that during the meeting, both officials discussed number of issues, including the Renaissance Dam developments, along with other issues of mutual concern.
“We also emphasized the importance of joint work and increasing trade and economic relations, especially after Croatia became one of the southern gates of the European Union” Sisi said
During the meeting, Present Sisi discussed with Milanović the 'remarkable efforts' of Egypt in the field of energy and its ‘serious pursuit of progress in green hydrogen and wind.’
Egypt's efforts to attract direct investments and the facilities of the golden investment license were also present in the discussions, in addition to establishing the investment zone in the Suez Canal. The Croatian side was invited for more investments in Egypt according to Sisi.
“We also exchanged visions and points of view on a number of issues of common concern, such as the Palestinian issues, Libya, illegal immigration, along with Egypt's efforts in this regard”, Sisi said
Croatian President Zoran Milanović said in his speech that he discussed with president Sisi boosting relations in all sectors, and especially in tourism.
“We are a small country, but we are now members of the European Union, and we welcome cooperation with Egypt”, Milanović said.
He described Egypt as a ‘great country that plays a key role in the region’.
He also stressed that Croatia is proud of Egypt's stability, as ‘this concerns us along with all European countries.’
He added: “We have very good relations with a large number of Arab countries, and I want to open doors for cooperation with everyone.”
Milanović invited president Sisi to visit Croatia, saying: “I invite President Sisi to visit Croatia soon and it will be a pleasure to receive you in our country.”
