CAIRO - 6 February 2023: Cairo University President Mohamed Othman Elkhosht announced that Cairo University leads the Egyptian universities in the Spanish classification (Webometrics) for the year 2023.
The "Webometrics Ranking of World Universities" report indicates that the new classification witnessed the development of Cairo University's position by 76 places compared to January last year.
The ranking of Cairo University according to this classification in January 2022 was 618, and in January 2023 it became the 542nd in the world, where in 6 months, it advanced by 20 places from the July 2022 ranking, as it ranked 542 instead of 562 out of 30 thousand universities.
Dr. Elkhosht said that Cairo University has also succeeded in developing at the level of the global citation rate for internationally published scientific research by 125% in the last 4 years, as the number of citations from university research according to the 2023 classification is 477,244, which is close to half a million citation equivalents worldwide.
Elkhosht stressed that Cairo University remained at the forefront of Egyptian universities in the Spanish classification, which witnessed the presence of only 4 Egyptian universities among the top 1000 universities, stressing that Cairo University succeeded in the last five years in maintaining its position at the forefront of Egyptian universities in all international rankings.
Dr. Elkhosht explained that the Spanish classification aims primarily at urging academic institutions in the world to present their scientific activities that reflect their scientific level on the Internet, and unlike most international classifications that take place once a year, this classification is published twice at the end of January and July of each year.
Dr. Elkhosht indicated that Cairo University always seeks to develop to keep pace with the global development, not only at the level of classifications, but also through the system in a broad and integrated manner.
