Campaign to restore state-owned lands in Warraq island going on

GIZA - Egypt - 17 July 2017: Giza Governor Mohamed Kamal Dali stressed on Monday that the campaign to restore state-owned lands in Giza's Al Warraq island is going on.

In press statements, the governor stressed that the campaign is targeting violators and non-populated buildings on the island.

The campaign to restore state lands on Mohamed island in Warraq turned deadly as one was killed and others injured in clashes between the police and island inhabitants.

The campaign, the governor said, aims to carry out 700 orders but only 30 ones were carried out, stressing that the police did not approach any residential buildings though many of them were illegally built on state-owned lands.

He added that he will hold a meeting with the island inhabitants in the coming few days to refute claims that the state is going to evacuate the island of its residents.

He urged the residents who have documents that prove their ownership of the land to present them to the authorities.

The governor said the island, inhabited by 90,000 residents, is the biggest ever island in Egypt in terms of population density.

The governor said usurped lands that will be restored will be developed and services will be provided to better serve the citizens.
