Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi
CAIRO - 29 January 2022: Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi underlined on Sunday the special historical ties between Egypt and Armenia, especially at the popular level.
Egypt has along the history hosted tens of thousands of Armenians who contributed at the political, cultural, economic and artistic levels to enrich the Egyptian community's life, Sisi said.
Addressing a joint press conference with Armenian President Vahagn Khachaturyan, Sisi voiced happiness for being the first Egyptian president to visit the amazing city of Yerevan since the establishment of the diplomatic ties between the two countries about 30 years ago.
Sisi said the visit reflects Egypt's deep interest in developing ties with Armenia in various domains.
He thanked the Armenian president for the hospitality, noting that this amicable climate has positively affected the talks which focused on the leap in the field of energy production and the national strategy for green hydrogen production, thus becoming a promising investment destination in light of securing needed energy for industry.
Sisi voiced Egypt's appreciation to Armenia's participation in the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP27) which Egypt hosted in November 2022.
President Abdel Fattah El Sisi underlined the importance of joint work to boost trade exchange between Egypt and Armenia as well as distinguished political ties.
He said this will require activating current economic cooperation mechanisms, topped by the joint committee for economic, scientific, and technical cooperation as well as the business forum.
Sisi said he reviewed during the talks the efforts exerted by Egypt to remove obstacles facing foreign investors and the national projects being carried out in Egypt, especially in the Suez Canal Economic Zone.
He referred to the issuance of the golden investment license, underlining the leap witnessed by Egypt in the field of infrastructure and transportation.
President Sisi said the talks with the Armenian president tackled a host of regional and international issues of mutual concern in the Middle East and South Caucasus.
He stressed the importance of dialogue, negotiations and exerting efforts to realize peace and realize a decent life for all people, especially in the current stage in which people are double suffering at the economic level in light of the fallout of the coronavirus pandemic and the Russian-Ukrainian crisis.
At the joint press conference with the Armenian president, Sisi voiced confidence that his current visit to Armenia will be a starting point for enhancing political cooperation in light of the common understanding for fostering bilateral ties at all levels, especially at the economic and investment levels.
He highlighted Egypt's expertise in several industrial sectors that represent a top priority to the Armenian market.
At the end of his speech, Sisi wished Armenia would realize more progress and development.
