CAIRO – 16 January 2023: Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry, president of the COP27 climate change conference held in November in the Red Sea resort of Sharm El Sheikh, said the COP28 climate change conference due to be held late this year in the United Arab Emirates, will be a chance for building on the success of COP27.
This came during Shoukry's speech to the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW) Summit, said Foreign Ministry spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid.
According to the spokesperson, the foreign minister reviewed the most important topics of COP27 conference which was attended by heads of state of 120 countries who reiterated their support to support climate work.
The foreign minister highlighted a decision to include an item about the loss and damage during the Sharm conference according to the collective will of the international community.
He said the Sharm conference focused on efforts to ease the effects of the climate change and stressed the importance of maintaining the Paris Accords Goals to mitigate the effects of emissions.
Shoukry also met with UAE Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology and COP28 President-Designate Sultan al Jaber on the sidelines of Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week.
Spokesman for the Foreign Ministry Ahmed Abu Zeid tweeted that Egypt and UAE have deep and profound cooperation and are always cooperating to ensure a fruitful coordination between the presidency of the two rounds of the UN climate change conference.
