CAIRO – 10 January 2023: Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli and Somalian Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barri attended Monday a signing ceremony of a number of memoranda of understanding (MoUs) that would go into effect between 2023 and 2026.
An MoU was signed with the Egyptian Ministry of Endowments, which will provide the Somalian side with interpretations of the Holy Quran as well as scholarships to Somalian students. That is in addition to delivering training to Somalian Imams as well as reviewing and publishing research papers in Islamic studies by Somalian academics.
Another MoU was signed in the field of tertiary education so as the two countries would exchange the visits of 2-3 professors. The duration of each visit would be 10 days. Moreover, Egypt will offer 350 scholarships for undergraduate programs, and 100 others for graduate programs.
The MoU also includes the creation of Egyptian-Somalian research groups, and delegating Egyptian doctors to the National Somalian University Hospital to help with human capacity-building.
A third MoU was signed in the field of culture and arts so that the two countries would take part in the festivals and exhibitions held by each other. The fourth and last MoU is in the field of media for the two countries to exchange movies and documentaries and produce joint works. The MoU also makes it possible for Somalia to receive Egyptian TV and radio channels, and send media professionals for training in Egypt.
