Egypt’s PM meets Pope Tawadros II to extend Christmas greetings

CAIRO – 6 January 2023: Egypt’s Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly visited on Thursday Pope Tawadros II, the head of Egypt’s Coptic Orthodox Church, to congratulate him on Christmas.

During their meeting, Madbouly extended his wishes of continuous blessings and health to the pope and Egyptian Christians on this occasion.

The pope, for his part, wished further success for the government and the state on the path of progress.

Spokesman for the Coptic Orthodox Church Moussa Ibrahim has announced that the Christmas mass will be held in the New Administrative Capital (NAC)'s Cathedral of the Birth of the Christ.

The services will be held on Friday night, the 6th of January, and led by Pope Tawadros II and Patriarch of St. Mark Diocese.

The church will open its doors for the invited guests at 5:00 pm, he noted.

The Ministry of Interior has announced that it has intensified efforts to secure the Christians’ celebrations in January.

The Egyptian Cabinet has announced next Sunday, 8th of January, a paid holiday for employees of the public and private sector to celebrate Christmas instead of Saturday.

The decision applies to workers in the ministries, governmental facilities, public authorities, local administration units, public sector companies, public enterprise sector, and the private sector.

However, exams will continue as scheduled.
