CAIRO - 29 December 2022: Director of the National AIDS Program at the Ministry of Health and Population, Dr. Heba El-Sayed, confirmed that Egypt has succeeded in providing all treatment lines for AIDS to patients free of charge.

She noted that Egypt aims to eliminate the disease or reach the lowest prevalence rates, adding that there is an expansion in examination, detection, analysis and dispensing clinics.

Dr. Heba El-Sayed further revealed that there are 22,500 people living with the disease in Egypt, and all of them receive full care, referring to the services provided by the ministry to people living with HIV, the cause of AIDS. The services include testing and counseling related to HIV, as the laboratory examination is done in complete confidentiality.

She said that the services include integrated social support for people infected with the virus and their families, in addition to clinical care for those infected with the virus, with free treatment through treatment centers in fever hospitals in all governorates of the Republic.

She added that inquiries about all services can be made via the hotline 0233152802 or 08007008000 or 0233152801.

She stressed the importance of the sustainability of services, and this was inferred by the positive results of the project to promote reproductive health for women living with and affected by the virus, pointing to the importance of participation and interaction in spreading awareness messages and effective positive support messages for those living with the virus to preserve the safety of all and protect public health.

Dr. Walid Kamal, Director of the Joint United Nations Program on AIDS, had indicated that stigma and discrimination lead to a form of inequality that affects the ability of individuals to access available services, especially HIV testing services, praising the accelerated Egyptian efforts to support HIV services.
