Egypt ranks 35th globally in terms of share of scientific research in GNI

CAIRO - 27 December 2022: Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Ayman Ashour stated Tuesday that a report by TheGlobalEconomy.com ranked Egypt 35th among 86 countries in terms of the share of gross national income (GNI) allocated to the expenditure on scientific research.

 

The minister pointed out that LE59 billion were spent on scientific research in 2021, with an increase of LE3 billion compared to 2020. Sixty three percent of that expenditure was made by public universities and research centers, while the rest was made by the private sector.

 

Egypt also ranks 33rd among 117 countries in terms of the number of patents, being the first in Africa and the second in the Arab World. The country further ranks 53rd among 99 countries in terms of the value of technology exports, whose worth is $526.18 million.
