Egypt operates Talgo train from Cairo to Alexandria - file
CAIRO - 26 December 2022: Egypt is cooperating with Spain in several aspects of the transport sector, including the railway and metro.
In the below lines, we highlight aspects of cooperation with Spain:
- A total of 7 luxury trains are being supplied from the Spanish company Talgo.
- The countries contracted for a project to develop signaling systems on the Assiut-Nagaa Hammadi line, with a length of 208 km, which is being implemented by the Spanish company Thales, in addition to the rehabilitation of 23 trains for the first line of the metro, and a contract for the rehabilitation of 35 trains and maintenance of 39 trains for the second line of the metro.
- The Egyptian Ministry of Transport is looking forward to cooperation in the field of localization of railway industries with Spanish companies, such as setting up a factory for the manufacture of railway and metro cars and railway tractors. An agreement has also been reached with Spain's Talgo to localize railway industries in Egypt.
Engineer Kamel Al-Wazir, Egyptian Minister of Transport, was meeting Iranzo Gutiérrez, the Spanish ambassador in Cairo, to discuss strengthening joint cooperation between the two sides. The Minister of Transport stressed the depth of the joint relations between the two friendly countries and the importance of the joint projects being implemented, especially in the field of railways and metro.
He further pointed to the importance of increasing the volume of joint cooperation to reach all fields of transport. For his part, the Spanish ambassador in Cairo affirmed his happiness at the visit of the Egyptian Ministry of Transport and the ongoing cooperation in joint projects, pointing to the interest of the Spanish government to increase the volume of cooperation with the Egyptian government in the transport sector, especially with the large boom in the volume of transportation sector in Egypt, which embodies the tremendous development that Egypt is witnessing in all fields.
