Egypt’s president urges expanding cooperation with Jordan in phone call with king

CAIRO – 17 December 2022: Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi affirmed the necessity of expanding bilateral cooperation with Jordan in a way that maximizes joint interests between the two countries, Presidency’s Spokesman Bassam Radi said in a statement.

In a phone call with King Abdullah II of Jordan on Saturday, Sisi expressed appreciation of the continuous progress seen in the bilateral relations between Egypt and Jordan.

King Abdullah, for his part, hailed the brotherly relations between Egypt and Jordan and the continuous coordination with Sisi, affirming aspiration to push forward the cooperation frameworks between the two countries at all levels.

The meeting discussed a number of issues related to bilateral cooperation as well as regional and international issues of mutual concern, Radi said.

Egypt and Jordan share growing cooperation in various fields on the bilateral level and trilateral level with Iraq. Also, Egypt and Jordan coordinate on the Palestinian cause with the aim of reaching a settlement to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.

Fields of cooperation between the three countries include trade, industry, economy, transportation, electricity, and energy.

Early in December, Sisi received King Abdullah in at Al-Ittihadiya Palace, Cairo, where they discussed bilateral relations and latest developments of the Palestinian-Israeli cause.

Also, the foreign ministers of Egypt, Jordan, and Iraq held a trilateral meeting on economic cooperation in Amman on 7 December ahead of a fourth summit among chiefs of the three countries.
