CAIRO – 30 November 2022: Egypt’s Health Minister Khaled Abdel Ghaffar has stressed on the necessity of the expansion of production and export of insulin to African countries, particularly after Egypt managed to achieve self-sufficiency in insulin supply to meet the local market’s demand.
This came during his meeting on Tuesday with Olfat Ghorab, the board chairman of the Arab Company for Drug Industries and Medical Appliances (ACDIMA), on the sidelines of his inspection tour of factories of South Egypt Drug Industries Co., SEDICO Pharmaceuticals Company and the Medical Union Pharmaceuticals (MUP).
Spokesman for the Health Ministry Hossam Abdel Ghaffar said that the meeting took up the mechanisms of work in the new production line at the Medical Union Pharmaceuticals "MUP" factory for the production of human insulin vials and its production capacity.
The minister underlined genuine efforts exerted to localize the pharmaceutical industries in Egypt and achieve self-sufficiency in the local manufacturing of pharmaceuticals, and then exporting them to all countries as per President Abdel Fattal El Sisi's directives.
The pharmaceutical industry is one of the pillars of the Egyptian national security, he said, pointing out that the Egyptian pharmaceutical factories are giant edifices that have placed Egypt on ranks among major countries in the field of pharmaceutical industries.
