CAIRO – 24 November 2022: Egypt has been invited by the Indian government to participate as a guest in all G20 meetings due to start in December during India's one-year presidency of the group, the Egyptian state-owned news agency MENA reported on Thursday.
“The Indian invitation reflects the historical ties between the two countries […]and embodies Egypt's position regionally and internationally and its influential role in major international economic issues and files.
"Egypt has officially notified the Indian government that Egyptian Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for International and Regional Multilateral Economic Affairs Ambassador Raji al-Etrebi will be President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi’s representative to the G20 meetings," said Egyptian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Ahmed Abou Zeid.
Ambassador Etrebi stated that the G20 meetings will discuss great challenges of severe and successive crises facing the global economy, where the countries of the group alone represent 80 percent of the global GDP, 75 percent of the volume of international trade, and 60 percent of the world's population.
He further added that Egypt had previously participated in the G20 meetings in 2016 during the Chinese presidency, and in 2019 during the Japanese presidency.
