India invites Egypt to attend G20 as “Guest Country”

CAIRO – 14 November 2022: India has invited Egypt to take part in the G20 Summit as a “Guest Country” during its presidency of the summit as of December 1.

Addressing the G20, which is currently in session in Bali, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi termed this occasion as “very important” and voiced happiness over the increasing interest of attending the G20 proceedings.

He also unveiled the summit logo — Earth juxtaposed with the lotus, theme — “Vasudhaiva Kutumba-kam” or “One Earth One Family One Future”, according to the website of India’s G20 presidency.

Indian Minister of External Affairs Subrahmanyam Jaishankar said earlier that Egypt will add “great value” to the G20 meetings, and that the issues to be discussed at the summit include climate change and supporting developing countries, the statement noted.

UAE, Oman, Bangladesh, Mauritius, the Netherlands, Nigeria, Singapore, and Spain have been also invited to attend the summit, which represents the world’s major economies.

Under its Presidency, India is set to host over 200 G20 meetings across the country, beginning in December 2022. The G20 Leaders' Summit at the level of Heads of State / Government is scheduled to be held on 09 and 10 September 2023 in New Delhi.

The G20, or Group of Twenty, is an intergovernmental forum of the world’s major developed and developing economies. It comprises 19 countries including Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Turkey, the UK, USA, and the European Union (EU).
