CAIRO – 2 November 2022: President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi and his Tunisian counterpart Qais Said met on the sidelines of the 31st Arab Summit held in Algeria, stressing support to ongoing reforms and developmental endeavors in the fellow Arab country.
On his side, President Said underlined that he aims for upgrading ties with Egypt to the level of a strategic partnership. In a similar context, the two leaders conferred over ways of pushing forward bilateral cooperation, and main regional issues of mutual concern.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed in August Egypt's congratulations to Tunisia over the announcement of the Independent Supreme Elections Authority on passing the new draft constitution through voting by the public.
"Egypt wishes all the best to Tunisia, and affirms its continuous solidarity and support to its people for stability and prosperity. That is in light of the historic ties between the two nations," the ministry's statement read.
Trade exchange between Egypt and Tunisia amounted to $330 million last year and investments reached $580 million, Tunisian Prime Minister Najla Bouden said in May.
Bouden made the statements in a speech during the Egyptian-Tunisian economic forum held on the sidelines of the 17th session of the Egyptian-Tunisian Joint Higher Committee held in Tunisia and co-chaired by the prime ministers of both countries on 12-13 May.
In her speech, Bouden said the joint committee affirms the importance of the bilateral relations between the two countries, calling for boosting the trade exchange between the two countries.
The joint committee consists of a number of technical committees specialized in the sectors of infrastructure, logistics, urban transport, railways, youth affairs, trade, and manufacturing.
