CAIRO – 2 November 2022: The 31st Arab League summit in Algeria is held at the right time given the unprecedented challenges that the world is currently witnessing, said Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Abul Gheit on Tuesday.
In the opening session of the summit, Abul Gheit said the Algeria summit will fulfill ambitions and aspirations of everyone to translate the Arab solidarity into action programs and integrated plans to be felt by Arab citizens in their daily life.
He expressed hope that the summit will achieve reunion and heal any rift among Arabs.
The summit is currently organized after being suspended for three years due to COVID-19 pandemic, noting that the Arab region is affected by the global crises, particularly those related to food, energy and climate issues as well as water security.
Arab countries are in dire need to have a comprehensive strategy to deal with these crises, in addition to addressing the negative impacts of the Russian-Ukrainian crisis and COVID-19 pandemic and their negative effects on economy, he said.
Abul Gheit highlighted support offered by some Arab countries to help others counter the negative effects of global crises and challenges and threats posed to their security and stability.
The summit is also set to review efforts to resolve the Libyan, Yemeni, Palestinian issues, he added.
