CAIRO- 30 October 2022: President Abdel Fattah El Sisi emphasized the need to keep strengthening efforts in cooperation with international expertise in green hydrogen energy generation using renewable energy, in line with the national strategy in this regard, taking into consideration the growing global interest in green hydrogen projects as a promising source of energy in the future.
The President’s comments were stated in a meeting with Prime Minister, Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, and Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, Dr. Mohamed Shaker to follow up on the Ministry of Electricity’s projects nationwide, particularly in the new and renewable energy sectors, as well as electricity interconnection projects with neighboring countries, said Presidency Spokesperson Bassam Rady in a statement on Sunday.
Dr. Shaker reviewed national projects in the sector of electricity generation from new and renewable sources of energy, mainly wind and solar energy, in collaboration and partnership with foreign expertise.
This comes as part of Egypt’s strategy for integrated and sustainable energy, which aims to reach 42% of renewable energy in Egypt’s electricity energy mix by 2035, particularly with Egypt‘s imminent hosting of the World Climate Summit next November in Sharm El-Sheikh.
President El-Sisi stressed the importance of expanding efforts to manufacture components for the production of new and renewable energy, particularly wind turbines and solar panels, in order to enhance the role of renewable energy.
The main objective is to diversify the sources of energy supply on which the development process in the country depends. This comes in addition to the comprehensive modernization that took place in the national electricity grid system in Egypt, whether in terms of power generation, transmission lines, distribution stations, and advanced electronic control centers.
President El-Sisi was also briefed on progress in electricity interconnection projects with neighboring countries, especially Saudi Arabia, Greece and Cyprus.
