CAIRO – 26 October 2022: US Special Presidential Envoy for Climate John Kerry said, Wednesday that the upcoming climate summit in Sharm el-Sheikh in Egypt [COP27] is viewed as the "implementation summit”.
He explained that officials and leaders must do everything in their power to limit global warming because, “We create conditions in the universe that cannot be undone”.
Kerry added in a press briefing over the phone, that there is a great commitment by Egypt and the UAE to make a major shift in the COP27 and COP28 summits, praising the Egyptian government’s sponsorship of the upcoming summit in Sharm El Sheikh, and its tireless efforts to boost energy Renewables and emissions reduction.
He added that the UAE uses extensive technology in relation to gas, and that the UAE along with Egypt are working towards bringing real transformation in the region, since they are the hosts of the next two summits.
He affirmed his support for Egypt and Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry, and expressed his confidence that the climate summit will be fruitful.
Kerry said that the African leaders have the right to demand climate compensation and the world must help developing countries adapt to the effects of climate change and defend the future.
"It is important to find a new financing mechanism to help countries find alternative energy” Kerry said.
He added that he realizes that the effects that are happening come as a result of what 20 major countries are doing, explaining that he shares the frustration of Africans.
