CPYP thanks Sisi for pardoning former MP Zyad El-Elaimi

CAIRO - 24 October 2022: The Coordination of Youth Parties and Politicians (CPYP) extends its sincere thanks and appreciation to President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi for pardoning Zyad El-Elaimi in response to the calls of the political forces and the Presidential Pardon Committee.

CPYP said in a Monday statement that Sisi’s position shows his constant keenness on the unity of the Egyptian ranks regardless of ideological or intellectual differences.

The pardon at this time ahead of a comprehensive national dialogue constitutes  a message of support for the dialogue by meeting all the legitimate demands that come from any party, CPYP added.

Sisi had just issued Republican Decree 510 of 2022 pardoning Elaimi in a continuation of his initiative to resume the activities of the Presidential Pardon Committee.

Elaimi, a human rights lawyer and a former lawmaker, was arrested in June 2019 and sentenced in November 2021 to five years in prison for spreading false news.
