Egypt’s Sharm El Sheikh to host 2nd edition of Middle East Green Initiative, Saudi Green Initiative Forum

CAIRO- 21 October 2022: Egyptian city of Sharm El Sheikh would host, during the activities of COP 27 conference, the second editions of the Middle East Green Initiative (MGI) Summit and the Saudi Green Initiative (SGI) Forum, announced Saudi Crown Prince, Prime Minister, and Chairman of the Higher Committee for the Saudi Green Initiative Mohammed bin Salman on Thursday.
 
 
“I would like to thank His Excellency President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and the Egyptian government for hosting the MGI Summit and SGI Forum in Egypt this year. We are holding them in tandem with COP27, an event bringing nations from around the world together under one roof, to advance global climate ambitions by inspiring joint activity at the local, regional, and international levels. Our partnership with Egypt reflects a shared belief in the importance of collaborative action to address the environmental and climate challenges facing the region and the world today,” said Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman as quoted by Saudi news agency SPA.
 
 
The Middle East Green Initiative will convene on 7 November in coincidence with the COP27 World Leaders Summit, in partnership with Egypt, while the Saudi Green Initiative Forum will be held on 11-12 November, SPA added. 
 
 
The MGI Summit aims at discussing climate change impacts and sharing experience among the leaders of the region to “accelerate towards the transition towards a green economy” for a better future to generations to come.
 
 
Meanwhile, the SGI, an initiative was announced by Crown Prince and targeted planting 10 billion trees in the kingdom over the coming decades, SPA said. Besides, it aimed to reducing CO2 by more than 10% of global contributions.
