CAIRO - 20 October 2022: A video was released on social media highlighting the invaluable contributions of Egyptian women at the coming COP27 at the leadership level.

This COP27, which is set to be held in Sharm El-Sheikh city in November, will consistently promote gender equality, women’s empowerment and policies that respond to the needs of women and girls.

The video used the hashtag #TogetherForImplementation to acknowledge the importance of the Egyptian women role in combating climate change, and setting a climate action.

The video featured previous remarks by a number of women ministers, and leaders, commenting on climate change, and expressing their pride for Egypt’s hosting of the COP27.

Egyptian Minister of Environment Dr. Yasmine Fouad described Egypt’s hosting of this important conference as “a very very big dream,” ensuring that “we will all be proud that this event is being held on Egyptian soil.”

Minister of International Cooperation Rania el-Mashat added that “This COP is a COP of implementation, it’s a COP where adaptation and resilience come hand in hand. This is going to be a very active COP.”

For Planning Minister Hala el Saeed, she highlighted the importance of the opportunity to discuss negative impacts of climate change during COP27, as she explained that “the MENA region will continue to suffer impacts that exceed adaptive capacity from increasing temperature and rising sea levels to abrupt changes in precipitations and extreme weather events.”

“Egypt is among the most affected countries by the implications of climate change despite it is very limited contribution to these implications,” Maya Morsy, the President of Egypt's National Council for Women, previously said.

Dr. Omnia El Omrani, who was elected as COP27 President’s Youth Envoy, also stated that Climate change is the biggest global health threat of the 21st century, adding “I can’t promote the health of my community without thinking about the environment which sustains us.”
