CAIRO – 15 October 2022: Egypt has extended condolences to Turkey as an explosion in coal mine in the coastal province of Bartin killed and injured dozens of victims.
“Egypt’s Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid extends the Egyptian Republic’s sincere condolences to the friendly Turkish people and the Turkish state,” the Egyptian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
Egypt also extended condolences to the families of the victims, wishing the injured a speedy recovery and hoping for the success of the rescue operation at the mine.
Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has reportedly cancelled a planned domestic trip as he would travel to Amasra town in Bartin to coordinate the rescue operation.
The explosion that took place on Friday killed at least 40 people and injured 11, said Turkish Interior Minister Suleyman Soylu. While around 58 workers managed to get out of the mine or were rescued, one miner remains missing.
