CAIRO - 9 Octobe 2022: In cooperation with the Stockholm Environment Institute, the Stockholm Center for Sustainable Finance, and the Stockholm School of Economics, The Embassy of Sweden in Cairo organized and hosted a training program on “Sustainable Green Finance” on 7th and 8th of October.

The training was carried out in coordination with the Egyptian Ministry of Environment and attended by officials and representatives from different ministries in Egypt such as the ministry of Finance and Ministry of Planning and Economic Development.

The aim of the two-day training was to explore critically and operate with theories and notions related to the role of finance for sustainable development, green transitions and economic growth which will enable participants to better engage with the finance aspects in the various stages of the public policy cycle.

The training was inaugurated by the Swedish Ambassador to Egypt, Mr. Håkan Emsgård, who said, “Climate finance is a key for implementing climate action and ambition; hence these issues are likely to play a central role at the upcoming COP27 meeting in Sharm Elsheikh in November. I hope these two-days’ program on Sustainable & Green Finance will explore several options to mobilize financing for effective investments in line with the Paris Agreement.”

The training addressed the latest developments related to sustainable and green finance and covered topics such as: financing the sustainable development goals, using new financial instruments, mobilizing private sector finance for the sustainable development goals, implementing financing from high-income countries towards developing countries most affected by climate change, and following the circular economy model.
