CAIRO – 6 October 2022: Egypt’s Interior Ministry has announced Thursday releasing 1,557 inmates on the occasion of the 6th of October War victory anniversary.
As per the Presidential Decree No.458 for the Year 2022, a specialized committee affiliate to the social protection sector has inspected the files f the inmates of who have met the pardon conditions and decided to pardon 1,557 inmates
The committee also said the step is part of the interior ministry's efforts to implement a modern concept of penal policy, provide inmates with all possible care and release rehabilitated convicts.
Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi said the Sixth of October 1973 War will remain a “proof of the will and steadfastness of the Egyptians and their adherence to the sovereignty and dignity of the nation.”
In a Facebook post on the 49th anniversary of the October War, Sisi saluted the Egyptian people, the valiant armed forces, and the righteous martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the nation.
“The glorious October War will remain a turning point in our contemporary history, in which our armed forces restored the nation's honor and pride and erased the stain of occupation from its lands,” Sisi said.
The president also saluted the soul of late President Anwar El-Sadat, the hero of war and peace, who fought the 1973 War with confidence in God and his people to achieve a great victory.
In an address to the nation earlier this week to mark the war anniversary, Sisi has reiterated appreciation for Sadat for taking with “heroic courage” the peace decision after the 1973 victory against Israel.
“The peace decision [of Sadat] turned the pages of the past and opened future horizons for the entire region,” Sisi said as he attended a cultural symposium to mark the 49th anniversary of the Sixth of October War.
Sisi saluted the soul of the heroic martyr Sadat, calling him “the hero of war and peace who courageously made the [canal] crossing decision despite the specter of defeat that was haunting everyone.”
President Sisi hailed the October War in 1973 “the day of pride and dignity, in which the Egyptian Army defied the impossible”.
The 1973 victory is an immortal day in the conscience of the Egyptians as well as the entire Arab world and peace-loving peoples, Sisi affirmed.
