CAIRO - 30 September 2022: Egyptian Minister of Transport Engineer Kamel Al-Wazir, met with the Japanese Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Kenji Yamada, in the presence of the Egyptian Ambassador in Tokyo, Ambassador Mohamed Bakr, and the President of the Egyptian-Japanese Businessmen Association.
At the beginning of the meeting, the Minister of Transport expressed the condolences of the Egypt's political leadership and people on the death of former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, stressing Egypt's solidarity with Japan in the context of the great contributions made by the late Prime Minister, which had a great impact on deepening the relations between the two countries.
He added that "Abe" was an exceptional leader for Japan and a true friend and supporter of Egypt, and therefore the president's decision came to name one of the important traffic lanes in Cairo, as well as one of the stages of the Egyptian/Japanese University of Science and Technology E-JUST after his name.
The Japanese Minister of State for Foreign Affairs thanked the political leadership in Egypt and the Egyptian people for the official representation and the attendance of Lieutenant-General Engineer Kamel Al-Wazir and Minister of Transport at the funeral of former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, stressing Japanese government's keenness to strengthen relations with the Egyptian government in various fields, including the field of transport.
He also praised the joint cooperation between the two sides in the fourth subway line project, highlighting that there are 55 Japanese companies working in Egypt in various fields
In a related context, the Minister of Transport met with Tetsuo Saito, the Japanese Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, and in the presence of the Egyptian Ambassador in Tokyo, Ambassador Mohamed Bakr, to discuss strengthening joint cooperation in the various fields of transport, especially in the field of the subway, where the executive position of the fourth line and cooperation in the field of Umrah were discussed.
They also discussed cooperation in localizing the manufacture of metro cars and electric traction in cooperation with the Mitsubishi company, as well as the operation of a number of stations in Egyptian ports.
The Minister handed over the invitation from the President of the Republic to the Japanese Prime Minister to participate in the COP27 Summit, expressing at the same time Egypt's appreciation for the support provided by Japan for many important development projects in various fields, which take into account environmental issues or are related to the green economy, including the transport and communications sector.
On the other hand, the Minister of Transport reviewed the three initiatives launched by Egypt in connection with the preparations for the climate summit, pointing to the tireless efforts made by Egypt in connection with the issue of taking into account the environmental dimensions in various national projects, including the transport sector, which focuses on expanding all services that observe standards. environmental.
For his part, the Japanese Minister of Environment expressed his appreciation to Egypt for hosting this important event, stressing his aspiration for his country's active participation in the upcoming climate summit in Sharm El Sheikh. His Excellency addressed a number of initiatives that are to be announced by the delegation participating in the summit.
The minister added that a number of Japanese companies will participate in the summit through a special pavilion to present the latest technologies and solutions in the field of combating climate change, which will focus on the needs of developing countries, especially with regard to adaptation and easing the burdens.
