CAIRO – 29 September 2022: Prosecutor General Hamada El Sawy on Wednesday detained seven persons accused of locking up, intimidating, and torturing a pharmacist, who then fell from the balcony of his apartment in northern Egypt’s Helwan governorate.

The seven persons, which are the victim’s wife, her father and two brothers, and three others, are accused of torturing and intimidating pharmacist Walaa over disputes between them, the prosecution said in a statement.

The prosecution referred to a number of posts that claimed that the seven persons deliberately murdered the victim.

In this regard, the prosecution ordered autopsy of Walaa’s body to disclose the cause and circumstances of the death. The prosecution also ordered inspecting the victim’s house to loo for possible traces of criminal violence.

The victim’s sister, mother, and second wife as well as two of his neighbors and the doorman told the prosecution that there were disputes between Walaa and his first wife, which ended up with the victim marrying another woman.

On the day of the incident, the victim sent messages to his sister and second wife asking them for help as a number of people linked to the first wife were coming to his house to force him to divorce the second wife.

Walaa’s son, a five-year-old boy, said his father fell from the balcony but added that he did not witness the fight between his father and the accused persons.

The Public Prosecution ordered handing the child’s responsibility to his grandmother, his father’s mother, as per a recommendation by an expert from the National Council for Childhood and Motherhood (NCCM), the statement added.
