CAIRO – 29 September 2022: The fifth Cairo Water Week 2022, slated for 16-19 October, will discuss the climate challenges and their impacts on the water sector in preparation for the water activities during the UN Climate Change Conference (COP27).
The Fifth Cairo Water Week (CWW) aims to integrate water issues into climate action and promote innovations in the face of urgent water challenges by unconventional methods using modern technology, Minister of Irrigation Hany Swelam said in a statement.
The fifth CWW will also seek to support and implement integrated water management policies and reach sustainable solutions to manage water resources to confront population growth and climate change, the minister noted.
This comes within the framework of the state’s great interest in the issue of water, as it seeks to place the issue at the top of the climate agenda as one of the most important requirements for sustainable social and economic development.
The CWW will include many high-level rounds, technical sessions, workshops, and presentations by prominent international speakers, Swelam said.
The CWW 2022 will be centered around the theme “Water at the Heart of the Climate Action” and is organized by Egypt’s Ministry of Irrigation in cooperation with national, regional, and international partners.
The water week aims to provide a platform for water actors and stockholders from around the world so that they can present and discuss urgent issues, strategies, policies, plans and measures linked to climate-water challenges.
The CWW will focus on five main themes, which are water security and climate change; protecting the Deltas; water-related adaptations to climate change; water, climate change, and future cooperation; and climate water-related disasters preparation and management.
