CAIRO – 8 September 2022: President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi witnessed on Thursday the inauguration of the Olympic Village of the Suez Canal Authority (SCA) in Ismailia governorate.
The village is an integrated sports city established per international standards on a 350,000-square-meter land to include many sports facilities for a range of different games, according to a report issued by the SCA.
The village includes the Suez Canal Authority Stadium, Indoor Halls, Complex of Swimming Pools, international hockey stadium, sub-stadiums for football, and outdoor stadiums.
The village also has a mosque, two airstrips, facilities for people with special needs, and a number of parking areas.
The construction of the Suez Canal Authority Stadium began in mid-June 2019, in accordance with the international specifications and requirements set by FIFA, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and the Egyptian Football Association (EFA). It covers 80,000 square meters, with a capacity of about 21,000 fans, the report said.
As for the Indoor Halls, they span over an area of 18,000 square meters and can accommodate 2,300 fans each. The halls have central air-conditioning and a good place for up to about 16 sports activities.
The city also houses a main stadium with a capacity of 500 spectators and is considered the first international stadium of its kind in the Middle East. It also includes another secondary stadium, two rooms for players, an arbitration room, a VIP hall, a medical first aid and doping detection unit, an administrative office area and an electronic control panel.
The hockey stadium, which was designed to host 500 fans, is also the first international stadium of its kind in the Middle East. An additional secondary stadium can also be found in the village.
During the inauguration ceremony, the Olympic Village project's General Supervisor Mohamed Enani gave a detailed presentation on the establishment of the village.
