CAIRO – 2 September 2022: A bus overturned on Friday on Gala Road between Cairo and Suez governorates in northern Egypt, killing eight people and injuring 43 others, according to media reports.
Health Ministry Undersecretary at Suez Canal Ismail El-Hefnawi said more than 30 ambulances rushed to the scene to carry the bodies of the dead to Suez General Hospital's morgue and to transfer the wounded to the hospital.
According to sources, some of the injured are in critical condition, which maximizes the possibility for a rise in the death toll during the coming hours.
Also on Friday, three people were killed and 11 others were injured when a train crashed into a microbus in northern Egypt’s Sharkia governorate.
The crash took place in Faqus town of Sharkia governorate near a railway crossing.
The injuries range from moderate to critical, Health Ministry’s deputy in Sharkia Khaled Fawzy said.
This comes while Egypt has seen a decline in the number of road accidents over the recent years in light of the national efforts to develop the country’s road network.
According to the statistical agency (CAPMAS), Egypt saw a decline in injuries and deaths due to road accidents by almost 29 percent and 9 percent respectively in 2020 compared to 2019.
