CAIRO – 15 July 2017: Four Egyptians affiliated with the Islamic State (IS) were arrested in Al-Saberi and Al-Hout Market in the Libyan city of Benghazi.

The spokesperson for the Libyan Special Forces, Reyad El Sheheiby, told Egypt Today that the forces have arrested many IS leaders in the city.

Sheheiby added, on Friday, an investigation of various elements led to the arrest of members of the terrorist group Daesh, which includes Syrian, Sudanese and Tunisian nationalities.

On July 5, General Commander of the Libyan army Khalifa Haftar announced the full liberation of Benghazi from terrorists.

The leader of the Libyan Special Forces, Brigadier Younis Boukhmada, said that the Libyan Special Forces lost almost 1,300 soldiers in the battle to free Benghazi, in addition to the injury of 2,500.

After Haftar announced that jihadist forces were driven from Benghazi, thousands of residents took to the streets of Libya's second largest city to celebrate.

But on July 10, the Libyan National Army urged residents to avoid entering the “liberated areas” of the city, where they said mines were still being cleared.
