DAMANHUR - Egypt - 15 July 2017: About 76 percent of a 115-million-dollar project for developing field irrigation systems in Behria governorate was accomplished, the Bheira governor said.
About 9.500 feddans in Beheira were upgraded under the project wicha aims at developing irrigation systems of 121,000 feddans in the governorate, Beheira Governor Nadia Abdu said Saturday.
The project is bankrolled by the World Bank (WB), the French Development Agency (AFD), the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), and the OPEC Fund for International Development (OFID), she said.
The governor made the remark during a meeting with two WB representatives - currently visiting Egypt to follow up the progress realized so far in the project.
The project plans to replace diesel-powered irrigation machines with electricity-powered ones to save energy and protect environment.
