CAIRO – 25 August 2022: Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi received a message from his South Sudanese counterpart, Salva Kiir, as he met in Egypt with Tut Gatluak, Kiir’s advisor for security affairs, on Thursday.
During the meeting, Sisi and Gatluak discussed a number of regional issues of mutual concern, including the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD), Egyptian Presidential Spokesman Bassam Radi said in a statement.
The meeting was attended by Chief of Egypt’s General Intelligence Service (GIS) Abbas Kamel, South Sudan’s East African Community Affairs Minister Deng Alor Kuol, South Sudan’s Higher Education Minister Gabriel Changson, South Sudan’s Peacebuilding Minister Stephen Par Kuol, and Ramadan Abdullah, rapporteur of the national security adviser office in South Sudan.
Kiir’s message to Sisi reviewed the latest developments of the political situations and the current status of the peace process path in South Sudan as well as topics of bilateral relations, Radi said.
Sisi conveyed his greetings to President Kiir and affirmed Egypt’s keenness to consolidate the pillars of security and stability in sisterly South Sudan as a decisive factor and a basic pillar to ensure the achievement of sustainable success and open horizons of cooperation to achieve development across the country.
Sisi also affirmed Egypt’s determination to enhance bilateral cooperation with South Sudan to utilize Egyptian experience in drafting a comprehensive development strategy for South Sudan in various sectors.
This especially includes the sectors of urban planning, infrastructure, roads and axes, transport. This is in addition to developing the existing cooperation between the two countries in the fields of training human cadres, all stages of education, agriculture, irrigation, water plants, and other sectors.
The South Sudanese advisor expressed his country’s great appreciation for the Egyptian leadership and people, hailing the continuous progress seen in the bilateral relations between the two brotherly countries in various fields.
Gatluak also stressed South Sudan’s aspiration to benefit from the Egyptian experience in the construction process with the aim of meeting the aspirations of the South Sudanese people toward a better future within the framework of the historic relations with Egypt, Radi said.
