CAIRO – 15 August 2022: Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shoukry received, Sunday,Canadian Minister of International Development Harjit Sajjan.
The two officials discussed means to enhance bilateral relations as well as matters of mutual interest, especially with regards to food security and climate change.
Ministry of Foreign Affairs Spokesperson, Ambassador Ahmed Hafez, stated that Shoukry stressed during the meeting the remarkable development the bilateral relations between the two countries have been witnessing over the past years, which is reflected in the mutual keenness to consult on many regional and international issues of common interest.
Shoukry also pointed out that the two ministers discussed the importance of advancing cooperation relations in various development fields, especially in the sectors of health, rural development, women empowerment and capacity building within the framework of sustainable development goals, expressing Egypt's aspiration to enhance mutual cooperation by upscaling the existing projects and increasing Canadian investments in Egypt.
The Spokesperson added that Minister Shoukry reviewed the most important developments in the preparations related to Egypt's hosting of the 27th session of the Conference of Parties (COP27) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).
Shoukry emphasized the Egyptian vision for its presidency of the COP27, including the importance of transitioning from pledges to the stage of actual implementation on the ground, building on the momentum that has been achieved at the Glasgow conference last year to mobilize support for global climate action, and expressing the desire to enhance cooperation in the fields of energy and environment.
