Videos show moment 5 policemen shot dead in Giza

CAIRO – 15 July 2017: A video surfaced Friday on social media showing the moment three men shot dead five police personnel in a Giza district.

The attackers were standing on the side of the road in Badrasheen area when a police vehicle passed by them, they moved towards the vehicle and opened fire at the officers inside.

Passersby were walking in the street when the accident took place, after which they ran away from the scene.

The videos were retrieved from surveillance cameras at a petrol station near the attack site. The Public Prosecution has referred the investigations into the accident to the State Security Prosecution.

The incident, which comes amid a series of terrorist attacks targeting police and army personnel, was locally and internationally condemned.

Head of the European Union Delegation to Egypt ambassador Ivan Surkos strongly denounced the attack. On his twitter page, Surkos deplored the incident against policemen, and reiterated EU solidarity with Egypt in its war against terrorism.

Both Grand Imam of Al-Azhar Sheikh Ahmed Al-Tayeb and Coptic Catholic Patriarch Ibrahim Isaac expressed their condolences to the Egyptian people, wishing speedy recovery for the injured.

Following the attack, a police hunt was launched to arrest the perpetrators.
