CAIRO – 11 August 2022: Zagazig Court of First Instance decided on Thursday to remand in custody a university student for 15 days pending investigations into charges of premeditated murder of Salma Bahgat, a 20-year-old colleague.

According to initial investigations, the accused, Islam Mohamed, admitted killing Salma as he stabbed her several times with a knife in his possession at the entrance of a building in Zagazig, east of the Nile Delta.

The victim was stabbed 17 times, with a number of witnesses coming forward with their testimonies.

The suspect was immediately taken into custody by security in the area, as ambulances rushed Bahgat's body to the morgue at Al-Ahrar Hospital.

Prosecution investigations revealed that the defendant had been stalking the victim after she rejected him. He also threatened to defame her after her family rejected his marriage proposal

On Wednesday, Prosecutor General Hamada El-Sawy ordered detaining Mohamed for four days pending investigations into charges of premeditated murder of Bahgat.

Prosecution investigations revealed that the defendant had been stalking the victim after she rejected him. He also threatened to defame her after her family rejected his marriage proposal due to his substance abuse and extremist beliefs.

Out of the 11 witnesses were interrogated at the prosecution office, including five who said they had seen the defendant stabbing her multiple times to death using a jack-knife at the entrance of a building in Zagazig, east of the Nile Delta.

On Tuesday, the Public Prosecutor ordered to form a team to urgently investigate the killing of the student.

The prosecution moved to the crime scene, accompanied by the forensic doctor and the experts of the Public Administration to investigate the forensic evidence.

The prosecution seized the recording devices around the incident location and transferred the victim's corpse for autopsy to indicate the injuries.
