CAIRO – 10 August 2022: Prosecutor General Hamada el Sawy on Wednesday ordered that a university student be remanded in custody for four days pending investigations into charges of premeditated murder of Salma Bahgat, a 20-year-old media student at Al-Shorouk Academy, who was stabbed to death earlier this week.
Prosecution investigations revealed that the defendant, named Islam Mohamed, had been stalking the victim after she rejected him. He also threatened to defame her after her family rejected his marriage proposal due to his substance abuse and extremist beliefs.
Out of the 11 witnesses interrogated at the prosecution office, five said they had seen the defendant stabbing her multiple times to death using a jack-knife at the entrance of a building in Zagazig, east of the Nile Delta.
On Tuesday, the Public Prosecutor ordered to form a team to urgently investigate the killing of a student named Salma at Zagazig City in Sharqia governorate.
The Prosecution was notified, by the police that the accused, Islam Muhamad, had deliberately committed the crime of killing a girl called “Salma”, as he stabbed her several times with a knife was in his possession near Zagazig Court, while she was entering along with one of her friends. The suspect was arrested.
Accordingly, the Public Prosecution moved to the crime scene, accompanied by the forensic doctor and the experts of the Public Administration to investigate the forensic evidence. The Public Prosecution seized the recording devices of all camera surrounding the incident location.
The Public Prosecution transferred the victim's corpse for autopsy to indicate the injuries, determine the cause of death, as well as examine the knife used in the incident, and the effects attached to it.
