CAIRO – 10 August 2022: The Ministry of Transport will soon hand over 40 kilometers of the High-Speed Electric Train railways to Siemens, after the completion of construction works, so that the German corporation would carry out the electro-mechanical works, such as introducing signaling, communications, and control systems.  

 

Those belong to the first phase that will connect Ain Sokhna with Matrouh through the New Administrative Capital. The Ministry of Transport announced in March that the beginning of construction works in the second phase of the high-speed electric train that will stretch between 6th of October City, and Luxor and Aswan.

 

The ministry had also noted that the technical works of the second and third lines would be assumed by Siemens, pointing out that the three phases extend over a total distance of 2,000 kilometers. Of which, 1,400 are in Upper Egypt. 

 

Minister of Transport Kamel al-Wazir told Al watan newspaper in May that the High-Speed Electric Train will be extended to Toshki and East Owainat in the Western Desert through Aswan.

 

That is to facilitate the transportation of crops, agricultural products and passengers from the area to the seaports of Safaga and Alexandria.

 

The minister further noted that the train will reach Abou Simbel to boost tourism in the archeological site so as the train would be passing through a total of eight main stations, and 12 substations.

 

The high-speed electric train consists of a line for passengers, another for cargo, and a third that is an LRT, which just operates within Eastern Cairo and entered service in June.
