All you need to know about registering foreigners’ marriage in Egypt

CAIRO – 9 August 2022: Egyptian citizens considering marriage from foreigners should meet some conditions in order to register their marriage contracts, in accordance with the Egyptian law.

In this article, Egypt Today explains these conditions and the documents that should be submitted:

1- Marriage contracts are documented through the Ministry of Justice.

2- The husband and wife must be present in person.

3- The presence of two witnesses from the Ministry of Justice and from the spouses' family.

4- The age difference between the spouses should not exceed 25 years.

5- The residence of the foreign wife in Egypt must be for a purpose other than tourism, which is proven by obtaining a temporary residence stamp on her passport from the Passports and Immigration Department at the Liberation Complex in Egypt.

6- The husband and wife must not be less than 21 years old.

7- The foreign wife should submit a certificate from her embassy, located in Egypt, determining her marital status, age and religion.

8- The foreign wife should submit another certificate from her embassy stating that her country has no objection to the marriage.

9- Two medical examination certificates for those wishing to marry.

10- 5 personal photos of the couple.

11- The Egyptian spouse’s identification card.

12- The marriage contract is documented by the Real Estate Registration Office.

After the necessary conditions are met, the spouses head to the Ministry of Justice building in Lazoghly Square in Cairo, to complete the documentation procedures, and to obtain the marriage contract that is sealed by the competent real estate registry office, and then authenticated by any documentation office affiliated to the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

After completing all the documentation procedures, the foreign wife heads to her embassy to complete the rest of the procedures, after which the husband is legally ready to travel and join his wife.
