CAIRO- 23 July 2022: A total of 727 prisoners were released on Saturday as per a presidential pardon, on the occasion of the July 23 Revolution, said the Egyptian Ministry of Interior.
Some of those who are released thanked President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi for pardoning them, voicing their their happinesses as they will reunited with their families to start a new life.
On the occasion of Eid Al Adha celebrations in early July, the committees assigned to review files of prisoners nationwide announced that 1,270 prisoners deserve to be pardoned as they meet the conditions set for pardoning inmates.
This falls within the framework of the Interior Ministry's keenness on applying modern punitive policies and qualifying inmates to re-join the society.
In June 2022, a group of prisoners were released as per a presidential decree. The newly-released prisoners are Kholoud Saeed, Hussein Khamis, Shebel Mabrouk, Abdel Rahman Moka, Alaa Essam Ramadan, Mohamed Mohy El-Din Mohamed.
Lawmaker Tariq al-Khouli, a member of the Presidential Pardon Committee, had previously stated that the committee is working on releasing more prisoners.
On May 4, 2022, a total of 986 inmates have been pardoned by President Sisi on Eid al-Fitr, according to a statement by the Ministry of Interior.
Egypt’s Ministry of Interior on Firday announced granting an exceptional visit to inmates of rehabilitation and correctional centers on the occasion of the 23 July Revolution.
The ministry said the exceptional visit will be allowed between Sunday 24 July until Thursday 28 July.
Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi congratulated people on the anniversary of the 23 July 1952 Revolution, saying the revolution continues to inspire us with spirit of determination to achieve people’s aspirations.
“I congratulate the Egyptian people on the occasion of the seventieth anniversary of the glorious July 23 Revolution, which will remain in our minds,” Sisi said on Twitter on Saturday.
“We are proud of it (the revolution) and its lofty goals inspire us with the spirit of determination, insistence, and will to achieve the aspirations and hopes of the people of Egypt for a bright future for future generations,” the president added.
