CAIRO – 14 July 2017: Bishop for the African Affairs Antonios Markos on Friday laid the foundation stone of the Virgin Mary and St. Mark Coptic Orthodox Church in Kampala, to be the first Coptic Coptic Church in Uganda.

Egyptian Ambassador in Kampala Mai Taha Khalil, the head of Al Azhar in Uganda, diplomats and representatives for the Ugandan government took part in the event, a statement by the Foreign Ministry said.

The ambassador said that the Egyptian church plays a vital role in Africa as an integral part of Egyptian foreign policy orientations to support and strengthen relations with the continent.

The church complex will be completed within two years, to include a medical clinic, educational centers, a volunteer youth hostel, as well as a charity shelter, Markos said.
