Egypt grants exceptional visit to correctional centers’ inmates on 23 July Revolution anniversary

CAIRO – 22 July 2022: Egypt’s Ministry of Interior has announced granting an exceptional visit to inmates of rehabilitation and correctional centers on the occasion of the 23 July Revolution.

The ministry said the exceptional visit will be allowed between Sunday 24 July until Thursday 28 July.

“This comes within the framework of the Ministry of Interior's keenness to uphold human rights values, implement the punitive policy with its modern approach, and provide various aspects of care for inmates,” the ministry said.

Egypt’s Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli issued a decision designating Saturday 23 July as a paid holiday for civil servants as well as for employees at the private and public business sectors.

The holiday marks the 70th anniversary of the 23 July Revolution.

The 23 July Revolution is a revolutionary movement led by a group of Egyptian army officers, known as the Free Officers Movement, which abolished the monarchy in Egypt in, 1952.

Last year, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi marked the 69th anniversary of the revolution, saying the revolution changed the reality of life in Egypt, achieved radical changes in all fields, and put our nation on the world’s political map.

Sisi thanked the revolution's leader, late President Gamal Abdel Nasser, and hailed President Mohamed Naguib as a symbol of the revolution who bravely answered the call of national duty in a defining moment.

“Time passes and the nature of challenges changes, from 23 July Revolution to wars for the sake of the issues of our brothers, to restoring lands and achieving victory and to the current challenges, including terrorism that the police and army could besiege and weaken,” Sisi said.
